Schedule Is Out!!!!

Well, the regular season schedule is out, and I have just had a chance to review it a few minutes. However, based upon quick review, it is more favorable than last year in many respects. Here are some highlights:

  • Only 7 back to backs, as opposed to 20 last year (somewhat surprising, given that this is an Olympic year)
  • Worst road trips come early — we play 7 out of 9 on the road from October 5 through October 25, including a 3 game west coast swing and 4 game western Canada tour. Longest single trip is 5 games, from November 19 through 26.
  • Best Home Stands: We have 6 straight in Nationwide from February 4 through March 2, leading into and emerging from the Olympic break. We play 7 out of 10 at home from March 11 through 30 — nice to have in the stretch run.
  • Interesting Visitors: Pittsburgh October 30, Carolina November 7, Toronto December 3 and Washington April 3

Generally good news, I think. More to come, but first gander is positive.

Go Jackets!!

A native of the SF Bay Area, my first exposure to hockey was the SF/Oakland/California Golden Seals, including Charlie Finley and the white skates. Fast forward to the late 1980's when Gretzky and the Kings came up to the Bay Area for an exhibition game at the Oakland Coliseum Arena, for which we had glass seats. I was at the first San Jose Sharks game in the Cow Palace, and followed them for their first few pathetic years, before moving to Columbus in 1994. I attended the first pro-NHL rally downtown, and have been a season ticket holder since Day 1, wife & I are active in the Jacket Backers, and son is an avid fan as well. I cover the Jackets for Inside Hockey, and contribute regularly to a variety of hockey sites. I maintain contact with the Jackets organization, and like to dig into stories, bringing a fresh, and sometimes irreverent perspective to hockey.

  1. Mostly agreed – the only thing that bugs me is the stacking of Detroit in the last weeks of the season. Ah, well.

  2. Yeah, not ideal, but hopefully we will have a playoff slot sewn up by then! ;-)
