Nick Foligno – My Captain, Your Captain, The CBJ Captain!
- Updated: May 20, 2015
The Columbus Blue Jackets held a press conference today, and officially named Nick Foligno the 6th Captain in CBJ history.
It’s been 3 years since the CBJ had a player with a “C” on his chest, a position that has been vacated since the last captain was traded to the Rangers.
The 27 year old Buffalo New York native was acquired by the CBJ from the Ottawa Senators back in 2012, a trade that has really paid off for the Jackets. Foligno had a career year during the 14-15 season, a season in which he had 73 points in 79 games. His previous career high was back in the 11-12 season, he had 47 points.
This season was full of excitement for Foligno and his fans. He had a career year, was named a All-Star game Captain, and signed a long term contract extension with the Jackets, a contract that was well earned.
From Day 1 of his trade here, I’ve said that would be the next Captain of this team. He embraced the team when he got here, embraced the fans and the city. He has great character and sticks up for his teammates. I do know that with fans, this was a tough choice between Foligno and Brandon Dubinsky, both of which are “C” material, but I firmly believe Nick Foligno was made for this specific job – To be the Captain of the Columbus Blue Jackets!
