Do you think Howson will pull the trigger and make a trade for a Puckmoving D-Man? If so, any candidates?

I think the only D that may be on the radar right now would be Anton Babchuk
besides that we may be waiting til the season starts up

Oh Im sure howson is looking for a good D man but Howson A) doesnt want to spend way too much for one or lose all our young players or B) has to be a right fit.
Howson so far as GM has been by far better than MacLean in all ways.

I'm sure he will, but at this point, it may not be until later in the season. Maybe he can make a good trade this week. We'll get a guy, eventually.

Yeah. Does anyone know anything more than that about him? I'd never heard of him before. I hope he doesn't turn out to be another Christian Backman.

Howson has had his eye on Stralman for awhile. Tried to trade for him with Toronto at trade deadline, and again in July, but Burke wanted too much.
He is a much need right handed shot, with a rocket from the point, and very good skating and puck handling skills. He quarterbacked the PP for Sweden in the 2008 World Championships. Not as strong in his own end as some, but Hitchcock can handle that.
He was kind of the odd man out in Toronto, and felt he wasn't really given a chance. Did not like his demotion to AHL last year. He was part of a trade to Calgary in July, but with the Flames signing Bouwmeister, and having the likes of Phaneuf and Regher, not a lot of room at the inn.
By all accounts, he had a great camp in Calgary, and the fan reaction there has been poor toward the trade, which is a good sign for us. Most thoguht the wrong guy got traded.
No guarantees, but this is a classic Howson move -- find a young player with the skill set you are looking for, who is underutilized or not used properly on his existing club. Howson is a good judge of talent, and has the patience to not overpay for that talent.
Stralman will be fun to watch. BTW, he has his immigration meeting in Calgary right about now, so will hopefully be in town as early as tomorrow.

I watch a lot of leaf games and this kid is the real deal. He got caught up in a numbers game in Toronto. White Kaberle & Van Ryn are all puck movers and Stralman was the only one a 2 way deal.
He should be the perfect fit in Columbus, I look forward to watching him this year for sure.
Great Addition by Howson for sure!

I am SO glad to hear all of that! That's the kind of info I wanted. I'd never heard of him before this deal, so I was hoping to hear from someone who had watched him, and knew a little about how good he might be. I've read all the stuff int the Dispatch, and on Portzline's blog. I wanted more first-hand knowledge. Thanks!

Toronto media over hyped him to the point that he was the next coming of Lidstrom. That may be a little generous, all I know is we are getting a great player that should fit nicely on this team. He was lights out in one of the World Championships for his country. He does need some work in his own end but once Hitch spends some time with him he should come into his own.
Good first pass, smooth skater and can shoot the puck
