Fire The Cannon Podcast – 3/2/2011

Fire The Cannon show hosted by Eric Smith and Lori Schmidt have an extremely exciting show lined up. Portland Winterhawks and top Blue Jackets prospect, Ryan Johansen, will join the show. Johansen has had a whirlwind of a year as he was drafted in the first round and forth overall by the Jackets in last June’s draft, was part of his first NHL camp, went to the World Junior Championships and now is focused on a big run in the playoffs with the Winterhawks. We’ll find out about all of this and more in what is sure to be a can’t miss interview.

Also, Bart Logan from HockeyBuzz.com will be our writer of the week in our “5 in 5″ segment who will answer questions from the fans.

We will dive head first into the trades that were executed by Columbus GM Scott Howson who sent original Blue Jacket Rusty Klesla to Phoenix for Scottie Upshall and Sami Lepisto. We also will focus in on the deal that sent fan favorite Tom Sestito to Philadelphia for centers Greg Moore and Michael Chaput.

We’ll also have our ‘Prospect of the Week’ award and review how the new Jackets did in their first outing with the club.

You won’t want to miss this show and it all starts at 7pm Wednesday night.

My roots for the game come from Fort Wayne where the Komets of the IHL play. They are the most successful minor league hockey program in the U.S. drawing on average of over 10,000 people. Then as I have moved to the Columbus region and the Blue Jackets opened up shop, my passion for the sport as well as the NHL grew even more. I am credentialed by the Blue Jackets and have been covering the team and continue to do so for Hockeybuzz.com since 2007. I have developed some great relationships with the team including front office, coaches and players. I continue to drive to give the Blue Jacket fanbase an inside view that is critical but fair.

  1. You’ve got to love the maturity of ‘The Johan’. As a Winterhawk season ticket holder, I can tell Jacket fans that Johansen has definitely put on weight and his size is markedly bigger…he can easily hold off opponents from the puck when circling the attacking zone.

Hopefully, he makes it…but in a selfish sort of way…hopefully he is back next year too. ;-)

    Go Hawks.
