CBJ Olympic Roundup 2/17

A look at how Blue Jackets Olympians faired in the first day of the Men’s Ice Hockey Tournament:

Rick Nash (Canada): Nash had a pair of assists and was originally credited with Jarome Iginla’s third goal in Canada’s 8-0 thumping of Norway. Nash played an integral part on all three of Iginla’s goals. With Nash setting up an impenetrable screen in front of Norwegian goalie Paal Grotnes on Iginla’s first of the night. His slick cross-crease pass found Iginla with a wide open net to pot his second. And, it was Nash’s shot from the high slot that Iginla tipped in for his third of the night. NBC downplayed Nash’s contributions in favor of Sidney Crosby, but the Captain has proved once again what he can do with a little firepower around him.

Fedor Tyutin (Russia): Tyutin registered an assist on Ilya Kovalchuck’s third period goal. Kovalchuk’s goal was the third Russian goal of the period, all three coming within four minutes of the opening. The Russian team lived up to the hype in a definitive 8-2 victory over Latvia. Tyutin spent most of the night paired with Penguins veteran Sergei Gonchar. Tyutin did lose his man on the first goal for Latvia but did not look out of place on a star-studded Russian roster. On a side note, former Blue Jacket Sergei Fedorov had the primary assist on Russia’s first two goals of the evening.
