Over the past few days, it has hit the fan in Blue Jackets land. While not much actually happened at the trade deadline, Howson let the cat out of the bag, that all of the Nash trade rumors were true. However, he didn’t stop at “we are trying to deal Nash.” He went on to explain that Mr. Columbus (Rick Nash) requested the trade. This left fans outraged.

Some fans are mad at Howson for driving Nash away, others are upset with Nash for wanting to leave. But who is really at fault here?

Firstly, Nash plays with little to no heart for his team as of late. I am sure being part of a failing franchise has added to this, but he is the captain. It has been obvious to me that he wanted to leave. It has also been said that he request that the GM be replaced. Guess what Rick? You aren’t the boss. That decision isn’t your’s to make, and requesting a trade after there was no change is a rather cowardly way to deal with it. Nash signed a long term commitment with this club, with the town, and with the fans. Abandoning ship with things get tough is not something that will gain Nash much respect.

But then there is the other side of the fence. Howson has failed to make any real progress towards moving this team forward. Coaches have come and gone, and at this point as GM a lot of eyes are on him to fix things. This hasn’t happened, and logic dictates that All-Stars won’t stay in, nor come to Columbus. He has created a mess, and I honestly feel that his days *should* be numbered.

So who is the villain in the Nash v Howson debacle? BOTH! Nash wanting to leave, while understandable, is absurd. After all of the talks about this being his team and town, it is a knife in the back for all of the dedicated Nash fans. I am ready to see him go, as I think it is best to move the team forward at this point, and he should bring some value back in a trade. Howson handled the whole situation poorly, and has created a mess in Columbus. After the way he handled Nash’s request, he is going to have a hard time bringing new talent to the CBJ.

This club is in trouble. They need changes. But on the plus side, how could things get any worse for the CBJ? Hopefully it’s uphill from here.

I am sure most of you CBJ fans have heard by now that Scott Arniel has been “relieved” of his duties with the CBJ. And if you havn’t heard, where the hell have you been all morning!

Here is what I am seeing from the fan base on the subject. You can basically divide the fans into 3 groups:

Group #1 feels that giving Arniel the ax accomplishes nothing, as this teams issues are deeper than coaching. Majority of this group want Howson, and the players themselves held accountable.

Group #2 appreciates the fact that changes are finally being made. Although late in the season, it is pleasant to see at least something is being done.

Group #3 consists of the fans that are already gone. These people have already given up on the team and will only care again when the team starts winning. To sum it up, the bandwagon fans.

Myself, I fall in the middle between group #1 and #2. While firing Arniel most likely won’t solve the issue, it is a step in the right direction. No, the roster problems are not his fault, and yes some sort of major revamp is needed. But ultimately the team isn’t winning, and that falls on Arniel’s shoulders. A new coach may not be a fix all, but ultimately it is the coach’s responsibility to build a winning team with what he is given.

I honestly expected this move much earlier in the season, and at the time I expected Howson to go to. But seeing as how they waited so long to relieve Arniel, I really have no prediction as to what the future lies. As crazy as this club is, they may decide to keep Howson in hopes that ANOTHER coaching change will fix things.

Long story short, this club is a disaster and needs fixed… By ANY means necessary.

Folks after taking a month off(why I have no idea) I’m back so lets get this party started. Starting off in the AHL the Falcons went 4-5 in November with the little guys leading the way. 5’8″ Cam Atkinson and 5’9″ Martin St. Pierre both scoring 10 points, Atkinson put up 6 goals and 4 assists while St. Pierre scored a goal and 9 assists. Other than a goals by Brett Lebda and Tomas Kubalik St. Pierre only had assists on goals by either Atkinson(3) and Alexandre Giroux(4). St. Pierre sits in 6th in AHL scoring with 21 points in 18 games(5-16-21) and is 5th in assists. Atkinson is currently 8th in rookie scoring while his 9 are 5th in the AHL and 3rd among rookies. Steven Delisle spent the whole month in the Windy City helping the Express go 8-4-1-1. Delisle played in all 14 games this month picking up a assist in a win over Toledo. The only other prospect to spend time in Chicago was Allen York. In a win over Cincinnati York stopped 38 of 40 shots he faced and was then recalled to Springfield just to be recalled to Columbus because of Rick Nash taking out.. I mean Steve Mason’s concussion.

Boone Jenner November Stats: 8GP 4-6-10 -3 14PIM
Jenner started off hot for the Generals picking up 5 points in his first two games of the month then Jenner had a rough night against Kitchener going pointless and being a -3. After picking up a assist against the Petes Boone was off to play against the Russians in the Subway Super Series as if being a -3 in the loss wasnt bad enough Jenner suffered a injury that forced him to miss 4 games. When Boone returned to the lineup he picked up points in 3 of the last 4 scoring 3 goals and a assist. Boone was one of the many prospects to take part in Movember you can see his progress here. Jenner will take part in Team Canada’s selection camp for the World Juniors next month.

Dalton Smith November Stats: 12GP 3-3-6 -10 17PIM
Dalton Smith is hopefully getting back into the rythem of things after missing almost all of October with a suspension. Smith started off with a goal and a assist in a win over Belleville then went quiet for 6 games before having a quick 2 game point streak with a goal and 2 assists. The goal can be seen here just fast forward to about 2 minutes in. Smith closed out the month scoring his third goal against Jenner and the Generals before being held scoreless against Kingston.

Brandon Archibald November Stats: 11GP 0-1-1 +4 8PIM
This will be kind of a quick one as Brandon only picked up a assist in the whole month of November. Times are still rough in Saginaw as the Spirit won only 4 of the 11 games it played last month 3 in overtime. To find a positive for Brandon his current +4 rating is tied for third on the team.

Lukas Sedlak November Stats: 7GP 3-6-9 +7 7PIM
Sedlak and Chicoutimi played less games than even some of the Blue Jacket’s college prospects. But in those 7 games Sedlak had points in all but 1 of them including 3 multi point games. Lukas started November on a 5 game point streak scoring 2 goals and 6 assists, Sedlak had 2 assists plus took on a player 4 inches taller than him in his second fight of the year in a win over Victoriaville. In a win over the Armada Lukas scored a beauty of a one timer adding a assist.(goals about a minute in, warning bagpipes at the beginning) The only game Sedlak went scoreless was a shootout loss to Michael Chaput and Shawinigan. Sedlak is on the Czech Republic’s preliminary roster for the World Junior Championships with fellow Czech/QMJHL Prospect Petr Straka

Petr Straka November Stats: 13GP 4-6-10 -5 10PIM
If Petr continues his current trend look out in December, after scoring 3 points in September 5 in October then 10 in December. I kid because hopefully Petr will time with the Oceanic while he plays for the Czech Republic in the World Junior Championships. Straka never went more than 2 games in November without a point including a month closing 3 game point streak. Petr’s best night came against the Olympiques when he had a goal and a assist.(Highlights here right off the bat #23)

Mathieu Corbeil November Stats: 9GP 7-2 .917SV% 2.33GAA 1 Shutout
It was your usual month in Saint John play 13 win 10 of them, Matieu Corbeil went 7-2 last month losing to fellow prospect Petr Straka and Rimouski and Quebec when top draft prospect Mikhail Griorenko who had a hat trick. Corbeil tied a franchise record when he made 30 saves to shutout Baie-Comeau to pick up his fourth shutout of the season. Corbeil was named first star in two of the wins when he made 28 saves in a win over PEI and then in a overtime win over rival Moncton when he made 30 saves.

Michael Chaput November Stats: 5GP 1-7-8 +6 2PIM
Chaput missed time in November when he suffered a shoulder injury in the team’s win over PEI missing the next 5 games. In those 5 games the Cataractes went 2-3 and according to a writer I talk to in Shawinigan “were not the same team when hes not in the lineup”. Chaput got off to a strong start when he and ex-MAINEiacs teammate Kirill Kabanov put on a show in the third period leading a comeback win over Quebec in which Chaput had a goal and 2 assists. Chaput picked up 2 assists in a win over Victoriaville after that he was named to play for Team QMJHL in the Super Series but then the PEI game happeneed and he couldnt play. When Chaput returned he picked up 3 assists in the teams’s last 2 games both wins. Chaput won 65% of the faceoffs he took in November and ranks among the Q leaders.

Austin Madaisky November Stats: 12GP 1-4-5 +5 14PIM
After getting off to a fast start picking up 12 points in his first 14 games he slowed down in November picking up 5 points in 12 games. Not that Austin is complaining after missing the playoffs last year the Blazers are one of the best teams in the WHL going 7-4-1 last month and are 18-7-1 on the year. Austin had his fourth multi point game of the season when he had a goal and a assist in a win over Seattle.

It was announced earlier this week that Oliver Gabriel was returned to the Portland Winterhawks and is expected to join the lineup this weekend giving the Blue Jackets at least two prospects in each CHL league. Gabriel was returned to Portland because he was struggling to get into the Falcons lineup as a rookie. Since this was a month long recap im running a bit long so i’ll end this here I thank you for reading and can follow @cbjprospects for updates on all these players. Ill get to work on the NCAA prospects and Mike Reilly and Anton Forsberg.

‘Fire The Cannon’ show hosted by Eric Smith and Lori Schmidt have plenty to talk about tonight as the Blue Jackets continue to get blown out by opponents and now General Manager Scott Howson is starting to trade for players. We will talk about the Kris Russell trade and what Nikita Nikitin will bring. Also, talk about Mark Letestu as he had his opening night with the Jackets and scored a goal in a losing effort.

We will also preview the Winnipeg Jets game that brings back the joyous Claude Noel to the Nationwide Arena where he was interim coach after the firing of Ken Hitchcock who by the way was hired as the new coach of the St. Louis Blue who the Jackets just traded with and ….It’s getting confusing so you need to listen in to get it all straighten out on the soap opera that is “As The Blue Jackets Turn.”

Little of This, Little of That,” will bring in Jeff Little who will give us more Blue Jackets’ perspective and I’m guessing plenty of opinions on the team and their recent moves.

You won’t want to miss this show and it all starts at 7pm as you enjoy your Friday poker night.

The Springfield Falcons appear to be alternating weekends after going 0-3 last weekend the team went 3-0 including 2 wins in overtime. Leading the way for the Falcons was leading scorer Nicolas Drazenovic with 5 points(1-4-5). David Savard and Martin St. Pierre both had 4 points with Savard having 4 assists and St. Pierre with a goal and 3 assists. Cam Atkinson added 2 more goals to give him 3 in the AHL all on the power play.

Both Anton Forsberg and Petr Straka didnt play any this week, Forsberg served as Mikael Tellqvist back up in all 3 games thos week. Petr Straka missed the week because he was sick.

Boone Jenner, Oshawa Generals(OHL)
Last Weeks Stats: 3GP 2-2-4 +2 4PIM
Boone and Generals started the week on a good note picking up his fifth multi point game of the season when he scored 2 goals and added a assist in a 5-3 win over the Belleville Bulls. Jenner’s first goal actually looked a lot like a shot he took just a few seconds before in the same shift(46 seconds into video). Jenner’s assist came off a faceoff win that a Generals defenseman blasted in for a goal. Jenner went pointless in Oshawa’s 6-2 loss to Owen Sound before bouncing back with a assist in the team’s 5-2 loss to Mississauga.

Dalton Smith, Ottawa 67s(OHL)
Last Weeks Stats: 2GP 0-0-0 E 0PIM
Dalton returned to the 67s lineup after his 10 game suspension last week with the 67s going 2-0 last week both games required extra time with one being overtime and the other being in a shootout, Dalton didnt have any points in either game.

Brandon Archibald, Saginaw Spirit(OHL)
Last Week Stats: 3GP 0-0-0 E 0PIM
Brandon and the Spirit went 1-2 last week with Brandon picking up a assist in the team’s loss to Plymouth. Brandon has 3 points this year in 16 games the same amount of points he had in 29 games after the Spirit acquired him in a trade.

Lukas Sedlak, Chicoutimi Sagueneens(QMJHL)
Last Week Stats: 3GP 0-0-0 -6 0PIM
It was a rough week for both Sedlak and the Sags last week as the team went 0-3. I think Sedlak may still be feeling the effects of the ankle injury he suffered awhile back. Sedlak had a rough night at the dot against PEI winning only 8 of 24 before bouncing back to win a combined 21 of 34 faceoffs in the last 2 games last week.

Mathieu Corbeil, Saint John Sea Dogs(QMJHL)
Last Week Stats: 2GP 2-0 .942Sv% 1.50GAA
Mathieu continued his strong play of late despite having his team record shutout streak to 144:43. The streak was snapped in the Dog’s sixth straight win over the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles. Corbeil had a assist(30 seconds in) on team captain and Panther’s first round pick Jonathan Huberdeau’s goal in the 6-3 win. The next night Saint John welcomed Sedlak and the Sagueneens this was the night Saint John finally got to raise it’s Memorial Cup banners and the players got there rings. Corbeil picked up his 3rd shutout in 4 games when he made 14 saves to win his 11th game of the season.

Michael Chaput, Shawinigan Cataractes(QMJHL)
Last Week Stats: 3GP 1-3-4 +5 4PIM
Michael and the Cats went 2-0-0-1 last week, Chaput went pointless in the team’s win over Baie-Comeau winning 12 of 22 faceoffs. The next game the Cats took on the Petr Straka less Oceanic with Chaput scoring the eventual game winner and winning 20 of 32 faceoffs and was named first star. The last game of the week was against the Ouebec Remparts, Michael had 3 assists, Chaput won 20 of the 35 faceoffs he took but missed in the shootout.

Austin Madaisky, Kamloops Blazers(WHL)
Last Weeks Stats: 2GP 0-1-1 -2 2PIM
Last week was a home and home between the Blazers and the Kelowna Rockets with the Blazers winning both. Madaisky picked up a assist in the team’s 5-2 win on Friday. Madaisky is still among the WHL defensemen scoring leaders with 12 points in 15 games which is tied for 7th. The Blazers are the second highest ranked WHL team in the CHL top 10 with a 11-3-0-0 record.

Mike Reilly, Penticton Vees(BCHL)
Last Week Stats: 1GP 1-2-3 2PIM
Mike was the least busiest of all the Jackets prospects last week only playing 1 game. In the Vees overtime win over Merritt Mike had a goal and 2 assists to add to his 8 game point streak(7-6-13). Reilly continues to lead the Vees and BCHL defenseman in scoring with 21 points in 15 games. It was the second straight game with 3 points. Mike will be taking part in the World Junior A Challenge playing for Team USA November 7-13 in Langley B.C.

Thomas has helped the Raiders get off to a 4-2-1 record scoring two goals and two assists. Larkin is a 6’5″ defenseman that according to the Raiders play by play man also plays as a forward on the power play. Colgate started the year in Omaha to take part in the Mutual of Omaha Stampede, Colgate won the tournament to win its first tournament since 2007(according to Mark Dekanich on twitter). Larkin went scoreless and was a -1 on the weekend. The next weekend Colgate welcomed Miami and the Friday night game went about as expected with the Redhawks winning but then the Raiders shocked the 4/5 ranked team in the country in overtime with Larkin picking up a assist on the game’s first goal.(Game Highlights-I have no idea what the deal is with the goofy camera angle). Next week Colgate took on Army in the Cape Cod Classic which sounds like it was like if OSU played a game at one of the Chillers, Larkin picked up a assist in the 2-2 tie. Last week Colgate took part in a home and home against the Niagara Purple Eagles, Friday night was a wild one with Colgate winning 7-6 in overtime. Larkin scored his first of the season when he desposited a rebound right in front of the net. Saturday night the Raiders loss to the Eagles in a 2-1 loss with Larkin scoring the team’s only goal.

Sean Collins, Cornell(ECAC) 2008 Draft 187th Overall

Due to a Ivy League rule Cornell has only played a whopping 1 game of regular season game. In a 5-4 loss to Mercyhurst Collins opened the scoring with his first of the season and won 10 of the 18 faceoffs he took. Collins and the Big Red are now off for 4 straight on the road, quick thing about the ECAC unlike the rest of the NCAA that play both weekend games against the same team the ECAC has pairs that they play for the weekend. So it’s off to Yale and Brown next weekend and then off to (Thurston Howell III voice)Harvard and Dartmouth.

Martin Ouelette, Maine(Hockey East) 2010 Draft 184th Overall

Martin Ouelette was the Black Bears opening night starter against Merrimack surrendering 2 goals on 27 shots. The next game against Northeastern, Maine’s coach turned it over to fellow sophomore Dan Sullivan as has been the pattern this season a game that Sullivan won. In the series opener against #6 North Dakota Ouelette made 18 saves on 21 shots again taking a loss. Against Providence last week Ouelette finally got his first win of the season when he made 24 saves in a 5-4 overtime win. Maine is also 3-2-1 with Ouelette being 1-2 with a .881 save percentage and a 2.98 goals against average.

Trent Vogelhuber, Miami(CCHA) 2007 Draft 211th Overall
Will Weber, Miami(CCHA) 2007 Draft 53rd Overall

Miami started the year ranked 1/2 in the various polls but loss its season opener to Bemidji St. 5-3 Weber had a assist in that game, the loss was rough with both Trent and Will being a -3. The next night the Hawks bounced back with a 3-2 win over the Beavers with Vogelhuber picking up his first point of the season in the 3-2 win. As I said earlier the Redhawks traveled to the middle of New York to take on Colgate again earning a split with the Raiders losing in overtime on Saturday night. Neither off the CBJ prospects had a point against the Raiders. The next weekend Miami traveled to Big Rapids, Michigan to take on Ferris St. with the Bulldogs sweeping Miami. Trent Vogelhuber scored his first of the season on Friday with Trent poking in a loose puck off a Patrick Tiesling rebound. Saturday night got ugly as 3 Redhawks recieved game misconducts including Trent, with the Bulldogs sweep the Hawks were 0-2 in CCHA play for the first time since the 2000-01 season. Last weekend wasnt much better as Miami was swept by Lake Superior St. losing on Thursday in overtime. Trent picked up a assist in the Friday night loss as he helped freshman and Maple Leafs first round pick Tyler Bigg’s score his first career goal. Saturday night was another rough one for Will Weber as the senior captain was a -3 after working back up to even in the team’s other games.

Kevin Lynch, Michigan(CCHA) 2009 Draft 56th Overall

Kevin Lynch’s season is starting to look like he may be the latest member of the CBJ second round bust club. Michigan is 6-1-1 so far this season with Lynch playing in 6 of the teams 8 games. Kevin Lynch missed the Bentley series with what a writer I asked said was a back injury. Lynch scored his goal(starts at about 2:00 into the video) in the Wolverine’s tie/shootout win over Northern Michigan when he took a pass from leading scorer Lindsay Sparks. That and with the help of one of his teammates on twitter we learned what he went out as for halloween

Seth Ambroz, Minnesota(WCHA) 2011 Draft 128th Overall
Jake Hansen, Minnesota(WCHA) 2007 Draft 68th Overall

The Gophers basically did what OSU does for the first few weeks of the season by playing Sacred Heart of the Atlantic Hockey Conference(need a second to google if thats a real school/conference go ahead) in it’s opening weekend. The Gophers destroyed the Pioneers 15-0 on the weekend with the 2 Jackets prospects scoring a combined 3 goals and 5 assists. In the 9-0 win on Friday freshman Seth Ambroz scored the last 2 goals including one with only 49 seconds left. Senior Jake Hansen who was named a assistant captain for this season had a goal and a assist and was named second star. The next night Ambroz had no points but Hansen erupted to set a new career high in points and assists with 4. The next weekend the Gophers took on the defending National Champions the Minnesota-Duluth Bulldogs and fellow Jackets prospect Drew Olson. On Friday night Jake added another assist in the 5-4 overtime win with Seth not getting any points in either game. On Saturday night this time in a 5-4 regulation Gophers win Hansen scored his second goal of the season when he scored the Gopher’s first goal of the game. In the Gopher’s series opener against Vermont the Jackets prospects decided to be helpful with the duo picking up 3 assists with Hansen picking up 2 and Ambroz picking up his first career assist. On Sunday the Gopher’s suffered it’s first loss of the season, in the loss Jake Hansen scored a beauty of a deflection when his linemate passed it to a driving Hansen who deflected it right over the Catamounts goalie shoulder. Last weekend when Minnesota traveled to Anchorage to play the SeaWolves, for the first time all season Hansen went scoreless ending his point streak at 6 games with Hansen picking up 11 points in that span(3-8-11).

Drew Olson, Minnesota-Duluth(WCHA) 2008 Draft 118th Overall

Last season when I’d do the week in review it was pretty much the same story every week for Drew Olson no points and maybe a penalty or 2. This season has been pretty much the same with Olson scoring a goal and no assists in 8 games so lets move on… wait he WHAT?! I kid as always, Oslon scored his goal in the matchup I mentioned earlier against the other Blue Jackets prospects in the WCHA. In the Firday night game Olson scored the second goal of his career when he pinched in and took a Caleb Herbert drop pass.

TJ Tynan, Notre Dame(CCHA) 2011 Draft 66th Overall

I think Notre Dame is the only school TJ Tynan could have gone to after taking one look at his profile picture on the team’s website(sorry TJ I had to). On to the real analysis, Tynan is currnently tied for second in the nation in scoring with 14 points in 7 games including leading the country in assists with 12. Blue Jackets GM Scott Howson may want to call the New York Islanders because Tynan’s partner in crime is Islanders 2009 draft pick Anders Lee. Tynan assisted on 12 of Lee’s 24 goals last year and has assisted on 7 of his 10 already. Tynan started off the season facing off against Drew Olson and the Bulldogs and Olson had a goal and 3 assists in a split. The next week the Irish closed the doors on its home the Joyce Center hosting the Ohio State Buckeyes in the split Tynan again put on a show scoring a goal and 4 assists including a goal and 3 assists in the win in which he was named 3rd star. The next game was Notre Dame’s first game in its new rink the Compton Family Ice Arena, Tynan had 2 assists and was named second star in a win over RPI. Last weekend the Irish traveled to Bowling Green and Tynan added 3 more assists to his total in the sweep. Tynan was interviewed by NCAA guru(I dont know what the female equivalent is) Julie Robenhymer for the 3rd episode of her college hockey spotlight when her travels to her to South Bend.

There you have it folks how the Blue Jackets prospects who are in the NCAA, I may keep with the monthly updates on these guy because they play as many games in a month as the CHL kids do in 2 weeks. If you think I should go back to the weekly updates let me know. To be kept up to date on all the prospects you can follow me at @cbjprospects.

Back at it Jackets nation time for the week in review, it was a rough weekend in Springfield as the Falcons went 0-3 this weekend. The Falcons only scored two goals last week and Cam Atkinson was part of both off them. Atkinson had a assist on Saturday on Wade Macleod’s goal and then scored the only goal in a 4-1 loss on Sunday. The Chicago Express went 1-1 this weekend winning its home opener then losing on Sunday to South Carolina. Going off a tweet it appears someone with at least a little connection to the Jackets is heading to the Windy City, as Paul Dainon was not looking forward to a 15 hour drive.

Boone Jenner, Oshawa Generals(OHL)
Last Week Stats:3GP 2-1-3 +2 2PIM
Boone started the week adding to his six game point streak(3-5-8) with his goal in the Generals win over Peterborough. Jenner was named first star scoring the game winning shorthanded goal. The streak was snapped in the team’s next game a 5-2 loss to Sudbury on Saturday, only the third time this season Jenner has been held scoreless. The next game was a wild one as fellow Jackets prospect Brandon Archibald and the Saginaw Spirit invaded Oshawa after spotting the Spirit a 4-0 lead the Gens made a game out of it losing 7-6, Jenner had a goal and a assist in the loss.

Quick update on Dalton Smith after serving his 10 game suspension, Smith will return on Thursday night against the Peterborough Petes.

Brandon Archibald, Saginaw Spirit(OHL)
Last Week Stats:3GP 0-0-0 E 9PIM
After scoring his first points of the season last week Brandon went scoreless this past week. The Spirit went 3-0 this week outscoring opponents 21-9 with the previously mentioned Generals scoring 6 of them. Archibald got into a fight in the Spirit’s game against Peterborough taking on Pete’s tough guy Derek Mathers(52PIM in 13 games).

Lukas Sedlak, Chicoutimi Sagueneens(QMJHL)
Last Week Stats:3GP 0-1-1 -1 4PIM
Last week I said that Sedlak was gonna miss time with an injury well he did…1 game. Sedlak missed a game last week with just a bad bruise on his ankle. Sedlak picked up an assist in the team’s shootout loss to Baie-Comeau on Sunday, Sedlak took a shot in the shootout missing. Sedlak won 28 of the 57 faceoffs he took last week.

Petr Straka, Rimouski Oceanic(QMJHL)
Last Week Stats:3GP 1-0-1 +1 0PIM
The Oceanic went 3-0 with Straka scoring his fourth of the season Wednesday night against Val-d’Or(35 seconds in). Straka and Rimouski finished out the week with a back to back against the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies. Straka is closing in 100 points in his QMJHL career(115GP 42-55-97)

Mathieu Corbeil, Saint John Sea Dogs(QMJHL)
Last Week Stats:2GP 2-0 .1000Sv% 0.00GAA
Last week was probably the best week of Mathieu Corbeil’s career starting off the week being summoned to Columbus to back up Steve Mason when every signed goalie was injured. After his 24 hour stint in Columbus Mathieu was returned to Saint John and the Dogs were off to a place hes familair with. Corbeil returned to where he started his Q career, in a game against Halifax Corbeil made 20 saves to pick up his first regular season shutout and was named first star. After being given the night off against the PEI a game that the Dogs won 10-3 Corbeil was back in the crease against Quebec and he did it again pitching a 22 save shutout for his second straight shutout and setting a new shutout streak record(121:55). On a quick undrafted player note Sea Dogs player Danick Gauthier leads the Q with 16 goals in 15 games.

Michael Chaput, Shawinigan Cataractes(QMJHL)
Last Week Stats:2GP 0-2-2 +1 0PIM
In the Cats two games last week Chaput had a assist iin each game as the team went 2-0. Chaput has points in 9 of his last 11 games picking up 12 points in that span(3-9-12). In the team’s win over Victoriaville Chaput was named second star when he had a assist aand won 23 of 31 faceoffs Chaput continued his dominance at the faceoff dot winning 33 of 47 this weekend. Chaput is second on Shawinigan in points and leads the team in assists, and is fourth in the Q in faceoff wins.

Austin Madaisky, Kamloops Blazers(WHL)
Last week Stats:3GP 0-1-1 +1 4PIM
Madaisky had a assist last week as the Blazers continued there strong start going 2-1 last week. Madaisky’s assist came in the Blazers 7-4 win over Lethbridge. Madaisky sits tied for fifth among WHL defensemen with 11 points in 12 games. The Blazerse sit second in the Western Conference and are the WHL’s second highest scoring team.

Mike Reilly, Penticton Vees(BCHL)
Last Week Stats:4GP 4-3-7 2PIM
Mike was the busiest prospect last week playing in four games and helping the Vees go 3-1. Mike scored three goals and added four assists to keep adding to his seven game point streak(6-4-10). The week started with the Vees losing for only the second time in regulation this season with Mike adding a assist. The team bounced back in a game against the 3 time defending champs the Vernon Vipers with Mike scoring a goal and a assist. Mike was named first star in the team’s next game a 2-1 win over the Cowichan Valley Capitals(way to be original with the logo by the way). Mike scored the game winner on a very Rick Nashian goal(go to about 4:44 in the video). To close out the week Mike had his best game as a Vee scoring two goals and adding a assist and was named second star. Mike leads all Vee and BCHL defensemen with 18 points in 13 games only being held off the scoresheet once.

Anton Forsberg, MODO(Sweden)
Last Week Stats:1GP 0-1 .886Sv% 4.12GAA
For the first time this season Anton Forsberg made back to back starts for MODO, making the first one last week picking up his first career win. This week Forsberg started against Skelleftea, Anton made 31 saves in the loss.

There you have it folks the CBJ junior prospects week in review, finally gonna do a NCAA prospect review since everyone except Sean Collins(stupid Ivy League rules) has played 5-6 games will get to that later this week as for this week Mathieu Corbeil and Saint John finally will raise there Memorial Cup Banner and will do it when Lukas Sedlak and the Sags are in town plus Sean Collins at Cornell will play the first game of his senior year.

Welcome Blue Jackets fans time again to see how the future of the Blue Jackets are doing. A quick update the team’s newest affiliate the Chicago Express played its first game ever on Saturday earning a 5-1 win over the Toledo Walleye, the Express dont have any players that are Jackets property at the moment. The Springfield Falcons went 2-1 this week losing its home opener to the Wilkes Barre/Scranton Penguins. The Falcons are tied for the AHL in goal scoring having scored 21 goals in the team’s five game. Leading the way last week was Nick Drazenovic who had a goal and four assists, Drazenovic is second in the AHL in scoring with nine points(2-7-9) his Seven assists lead the AHL. Three players had three point weeks with Ryan Russell scoring three goals, Cody Goloubef picking up three assists and Martin St. Pierre with two goal and a assist. Three players scored there first career goals with Oliver Gabriel, Dalton Prout and Mike Thomas(AHL only contract). Now for the bad news in the team’s game on Friday starting goaltender Allen York got ran over and his shoulder popped out forcing the Falcons to scramble for another goaltender, then on Saturday night John Moore needed to be helped off the ice after being tripped.

Boone Jenner, Oshawa Generals(OHL)
Last Week Stats:4GP 2-4-6 +1 4PIM
Boone was one of the busiest CBJ prospects last week playing in four games going 3-0-0-1. Jenner started the week scoring in back to back wins earning first and second star honors. Then Boone had back to back two assists games giving him a five game point streak(2-5-7) and has points in seven of his last eight scoring 12 in that span(5-7-12). Jenner continues to lead the Generals in scoring and assists with 13 points and eight assists.

Brandon Archibald, Saginaw Spirit(OHL)
Last Week Stats:3GP 1-1-2 +2 4PIM
Brandon Archibald found his way onto the scoresheet for the first time this season scoring a goal and assist last week and helped Saginaw snap its longest losing streak in six years. Archibald picked up an assist in the team’s loss to Sarnia assisting on the fresh from the Blackhawks Brandon Saad’s first of the season. The next night Brandon may have scored the easiest/goofiest goal of his career. 55 seconds into the game Brandon dumped it into the Niagara end and when the IceDogs goalie went out to play it the puck it took a funny bounce off the side board and went into the empty net.

Lukas Sedlak, Chicoutimi Sagueneens(QMJHL)
Last Week Stats:2GP 0-1-1 -1 4PIM
I hope its not but this may be the last update on Lukas Sedlak for awhile because Sedlak suffered an injury in the Sags win over Gatineau but according to this article the next night in Victoriaville Sedlak was seen walking with crutches. Plus Chicoutimi’s play by play guy tweeted this(translated) “Bad news for Sags: Lukas Sedlak was injured ankle and will miss the game tonight. Maybe a broken …”. Sedlak had a assist in the team’s win over Baie-Comeau.

Petr Straka, Rimouski Oceanic(QMJHL)
Last Week Stats:2GP 0-1-1 -1 5PIM
Petr Straka and the Oceanic hosted the Baie-Comeau Drakkar last week for a back to back with the teams earning split. As it always appears during a back to back the second game is always chippier. In the second game Straka had a assist but also got in the second fight of his career. Straka started a second fight after one had already started earning him a game misconduct.

Mathieu Corbeil, Saint John Sea Dogs(QMJHL)
Last Week Stats:2GP 1-1 .829Sv% 3.00GAA
Corbeil played in two of the Sea Dogs three games this week getting his first night off since returning from Columbus but the five goals he allowed against Gatineau may have been a factor as well. The game Corbeil didnt start was a Sea Dogs win but the next night Coach Gerard Gallant went back to the big guy(that taught us about #tallguyproblems) Corbeil stopped 14 of the 15 shots he faced and was named second star. Corbeil’s 2.61 GAA is third among QMJHL goalies and his seven wins are tied for tops in the league.

Michael Chaput, Shawinigan Cataractes(QMJHL)
Last Week Stats:2GP 0-3-3 -1 0PIM
Chaput is in the midst of a six game point streak picking up 3-3-6 in that span. Chaput picked up three assists this week as the Cats went 0-1-1-0. Chaput picked up his fourth multi-point game of the season in a 3-2 overtime loss. While the Cats may be struggling Chaput got some good news as Shawinigan acquired Chaput’s old Lewiston MAINEiacs teammate and Islanders draft pick Kirill Kabanov who was reportedly on his way to Europe before he was acquired.

Austin Madaisky, Kamloops Blazers(WHL)
Last Week Stats:4GP 0-3-3 +3 2PIM
Madaisky started the week adding to his career high six game point streak scoring 10 points in that span to put him among the WHL defensive scoring leaders. After scoring in six straight Madaisky didnt score in the teams last two games this week picking up 3 assists. After missing the playoffs last year The Blazers sit atop the B.C. Division just two points ahead of Victoria. Madaisky is tied for fourth in the WHL among defenseman.

Mike Reilly, Penticton Vees(BCHL)
Last Week Stats:2GP 1-1-2 2PIM
Mike Reilly is still off to his great start in the BCHL scoring in eight of his first nine games picking up 5-6-11. This week the Vees went 2-0 outscoring opponents 14-5, the Vees are the BCHL’s highest scoring team scoring 53 goals in only nine games averaging 5.89 goals a game. Mike had a goal and a assist on the weekend and sits second among BCHL defensemen. Penticton is tops in the Interior Conference just a point up on three time defending champion Vernon.

Anton Forsberg, MODO(Sweden)
Last Week Stats:1GP 1-0 .973Sv% 1.00GAA
After sitting for five straight games Anton Forsberg found his way back to the MODO net. In his first start since September 29 Anton stopped 36 of the 37 shots he faced in a 3-1 win over Lulea.

There you have it folks how the CBJ’s prospects did last week now onto the Jackets’s college prospects did, but this is getting a little long so ill get to that post ASAP. As for next week we have a interesting matchup as Brandon Archibald has to try and stop Boone Jenner as the Spirit travel to Oshawa on Saturday.

Guess who’s back folks your friendly neighborhood prospect/stat geek @cbjprospects, time to start back up the Blue Jackets prospect week in review. Now instead of the usual week I decided to wait until now so that most of the prospects would have close to the same amount of games. So without further ado here we go.

Boone Jenner, Oshawa Generals(OHL)-2011 Draft 2nd Round 37th Pick

Boone Jenner was named captain of the Generals before he head to Michigan with the Jackets rookies where he scored a goal and two assists. Jenner like most of the Jacket’s unsigned junior prospects made it into the split squad games against the Winnipeg Jets where he scored a goal. The next day Jenner was sent back to Oshawa where he picked up an assist in the season opener before missing the team’s next game with the dreaded “lower body injury”. Jenner came back hard first getting in a fight in his first game back then lighting up the Erie Otters for two goals and two assists earning first star honors and was a +5.

Dalton Smith, Ottawa 67′s(OHL)-2010 Draft 2nd Round 34th Pick

This will be a quick one because in what was supposed to be a bounce back year for Smith started a lot like last year. In the 67′s season opener he was suspended for getting into a fight after another had started also breaking Brock Beukeboom’s nose and taunting the Soo bench. This year in the season opener Smith was pushed into Belleville goalie Malcolm Subban but his elbow came up and hit Subban knocking his mask off and earning Smith a 10 game suspension, Smith wont be back until October 27th against Peterborough.

Brandon Archibald, Saginaw Spirit(OHL)-2010 Draft 4th Round 94th Pick

Brandon was probably one of the few junior kids happy to be sent back it meant he finally gets to play. Archibald only made it into one game in Traverse City then only got to travel with the big club to Winnipeg. Back in Saginaw Brandon has played in all five games where it looks like he is paired up with Stars first round pick Jamie Olesniak. Archibald has scored no points and got into a fight during the team’s game with Kitchener.

First a bit of a explanation is needed because all 4 of the Jacket’s prospects in the Q missed their team’s first four or five games because the league starts earlier than the OHL and WHL because of something to do with schooling in Quebec.

Lukas Sedlak, Chicoutimi Sagueneens(QMJHL)-2011 Draft 6th Round 157th Pick

Sedlak is following the same career path as Jacket’s prospect Tomas Kubalik coming over from Europe to play in the CHL. Sedlak is playing on one of the Sags(nickname and easier to say than Sagueneens) top two lines with 10-11 QMJHL Rookie of the Year Charles Hudon and 35 goal scorer Guillame Asselin. After missing the team’s first five games with the Jackets then being given one more game to rest, Sedlak made is Q debut scoring the team’s only goal in a 9-1 loss winning 14 of 22 faceoffs. In his second game Lukas got two-thirds of a Gordie Howe hat trick scoring his second goal in as many games then getting in his first career fight earnig third star honors in a shootout loss. To finish his strong start Sedlak picked up a assist to give him a point in his first three games and having his best night at the faceoff dot winning 20 out of 29. Sedlak went scoreless for the first time in his fourth game which was also the first time he was a minus.

Petr Straka, Rimouski Oceanic(QMJHL)-2010 Draft 2nd Round 55th Pick

Straka is another Jacket prospect hoping for a bounceback after missing time with two injuries last year. Last season Petr scored points in nine of his first 10 games last year before going ice cold either going scoreless or injured for the next 16 games. This year he got off to a decent start picking up points in three of his first four games. Straka’s first game was against the Sedlak-less Sags and after spotting them a 3-0 lead the game ended in a shootout with Straka picking up two assists and missing his attempt in the shootout while being named third star. Petr’s next game was against another potential teammate as the Cataractes and Michael Chaput came to town, Straka scored his first goal of the season in the loss. After going scoreless against the Moncton Wildcats, Straka was back on the statsheet scoring his second goal of the year in a 6-1 rout of the Drummondville Voltigeurs on a breakaway.

Mathieu Corbeil, Saint John Sea Dogs(QMJHL)-2010 Draft 4th Round 102nd Pick

Things were looking rough in Saint John, the defending Memorial Cup Champs started off 0-3 getting outscored 19-7 and missing as many as 13 regulars from last year. After winning its first game of the season Corbeil was returned from Columbus and Mathieu started the next five games winning four of them. But before being sent back Mathieu got to have a interesting night starting off in the pressbox for the Jets-Jackets game ending up on the bench backing up Paul Dainton after Mark Dekanich was injured. Corbeil’s first game back he stopped 32 of 36 then stopping four out of four in a shootout. Mathieu started the next night stopping 26 out of 28 but it was his next game against the freshly relocated Blainville-Boisbriand Armada and there flashy black and white color scheme. Corbeil stopped 30 of 31 shots he faced and was named 1st star. In his fourth start Corbeil stopped 22 of 24 to give the Sea Dogs there fifth straight win and Corbeil his fourth. Then Sunday happened in what was just a ugly game for everyone Corbeil made his fifth straight game and barely made it into the second period. Corbeil was pulled just a 1:42 in when he allowed three goals on 15 shots taking the loss.

Michael Chaput, Shawinigan Cataractes(QMJHL)-Trade with Philadelphia

Chaput is off to the best start of the Jackets prospects with seven points in six games including a three point game in his season debut in which he was a +3 winning 14 of 24 in the faceoff dot and was named second star. The next two games Chaput continued his dominance in the faceoff dot winning 12 out of 18 despite scoring no points against Drummondville but it was against Petr Straka and the Oceanic that he really showed off, Chaput picked up a assist and won 19 of 23 in the win. In his next game Chaput got another assist in a loss while winning 19 of 29, to close out his three game point streak Michael picked up two assists and was named third star winning 18 of 27. In his latest game Chaput had no points and won 16 of the 30 draws he took. I brought up his faceoff numbers in all his games because thats one of the things hes best at, right now Chaput is winning 65% of his draws and has won the seventh most draws in the Q. Chaput was acquired by the Cats in a dispersal draft after the Lewiston MAINEiacs folded after last year’s playoff run.

Austin Madaisky, Kamloops Blazers(WHL)-2010 Draft 4th Round 124th Pick

Austin is back in the Blazers lineup after missing the last two months of last season with a broken vertabrae. Despite going without a point and being a minus one Madaisky was named third star, I asked the Blazers play by play man why and he said that Madaisky “played alot…and played well”. In his next game against Vancouver Austin repeated what he did the last time the Giants and Blazers met during the preseason he scored two power play goals. The two goal game was the first of his WHL career, against Victoria Madiasky picked up a assist and was a plus for the first time this season.

Mike Reilly, Penticton Vees(BCHL)-2011 Draft 4th Round 98th Pick

Mike Reilly is the first Blue Jacket’s prospect to play in the BCHL which is a step below the Canadian Hockey League. Players play in it to keep there NCAA eligibility. Ryan Johansen played in Penticton when he thought he was going to go to Northeastern before heading to Portland to become a first round pick. Mike and his twin brothers, Connor and Ryan are off to Minnesota next year to join fellow Jackets prospect Seth Ambroz. Mike started off his BCHL career with assists in his first two games before scoring his first career goal in a 9-2 win over Prince George.(fast foward to 12:30 to see Mike’s goal, #5 if you watch the whole video). In the Vees next game a 9-1 win against the Trail Smoke Eaters(uh nice name???) Mike scored again(again fast forward to 4:30) to give him a four game point streak to start his career. Mike was the focus of a Hockey News Hot List from earlier this season.

Anton Forsberg, MODO(Sweden)-2011 Draft 7th Round 188th Pick

Anton Forsberg is proving to be a real challenge because if you can’t tell by reading my stuff and can definitely tell if you’ve met me I don’t speak Swedish. Forsberg is the backup goalie for the star factory that has produced stars Markus Naslund and Peter Forsberg(relation I have no idea sorry) but not many goalies. Forsberg has only started one game this season against HV71 and he got lit up for 6 goals now despite a paper calling him a flop a local blog(im guessing here it is translated) said he was MODO’s best player. Forsberg looked like a star in the making when he picked up two shutouts in the preseason. Ill do my best keeping track of the young Swede who’s team captain may look familiar to old school Jackets fans.

Now just a quick update on the Jacket’s college prospects that played there lone preseason game this weekend. Thomas Larkin and Colgate took on Carleton, the game ended in a 3-3 tie with Larkin scoring no points but was a +1. Quick side note Colgate instead of having the usual captain and a few assistants, Colgate will have tri captains with Larkin serving as one. OSU fans will love this Michigan lost to a school that just had tryouts in September and players have to secure a 250 dollar sponsor to play(thanks to @OSUKnucklebucks for that tidbit). Jacket prospect Kevin Lynch had no points and was a -2. Martin Ouelette played the second half of Maine’s 7-3 route of New Brunswick matching up against former Jacket Dan LaCosta(how he can play college after playing pro I dont know). Ouelette stopped 15 of 16 shots he faced. In a game I attended Miami defeated Windsor 4-1 in a penalty filled game, Will Weber is a co-captain with the Redhawks and will anchor there defense. Weber had a assist in the win while Trent Vogelhuber had no points but started the game. Minnesota took on U of BC and defeated the Thunderbirds 3-0 with Jake Hansen having a part in each goal scoring the first goal only 85 seconds in then assisting on the other two. Freshman Seth Ambroz had no points in the win but tied for the lead in shots. Drew Olson did his usual scoring no points but was even with two penalty minutes. The thing about these preseason games is they dress pretty much everyone including eight defensemen. T.J. Tynan had a assist as the number 1 Notre Dame Fighting Irish took on Western Ontario earning a 4-0 win. Tynan was named to the CCHA’s Preseason First Team, Will Weber was named to the Second Team.

Ill be back next week with my normal week in review as always follow @cbjprospects for stat updates the day after games and whatever kind of stuff I can find. Also like I’ve said if you dont like the new format let me know.
