Big Week Upcoming for the Blue Jackets!

Well, the season hasn’t started the way we would have liked, In fact about the only thing that has happened so far that most of us die-hards expected is the lack of scoring.  Through 6 games, the boys are only mustering a hair over 2 goals a game, But the Power is running at a fiery 27%, good enough for 6th in the league so far!

There has a been a lot of talk on Twitter about what Jarmo should do.  Should they scratch Wiz? send down Murray? Bring Erixon back from Springfield (who has 9 points in 3 games)? Play Prout more?  At this point, I don’t know!  And I would hate to be in Jarmo or JD’s shoes right now.  I highly doubt that management is hitting the panic button, and neither am I.

So that leads me to the next 7 days.  Starting tonight against the Washington Capitals.  The Capitals have not been good this year.  We all know how they finished last year, so we know they’re going to get hot at some point, so lets get some points now while we can.  The next 4 games are vs the Canucks, Devils, Leafs and Ducks.  All of those are going to be tough games.  But 4 of the 5 games are going to be at home.  10 points available in the next 7 days.  10 very valuable points.  The combined win/loss record of those teams is 19-15, again, these are going to be tough games for the Jackets!  But this team is built for hard nose, gritty games.  And all of these teams play hard nose and gritty hockey.

The bottom line for me is this: I believe that in a few months, when Nathan Horton comes back from shoulder surgery, this team will be looking back on this week and saying 1 of 2 things.  1.  That 5 game stretch from 10-19 to 10-26 is what put us in a position to contend for a playoff spot.  or 2.  That 5 game stretch from 10-19 to 10-26 sunk our hopes for a playoff spot.  As I noted earlier, 4 of the 5 games are at home, which usually means the CBJ will win a few of them, but they are winless so far at home this season, and THAT is what scares me about this week.  I am very much a positive person, and have total faith in my team, and I always root for them no matter what! I have a feeling they will do great this week, starting tonight with the Caps.  But in order to do that, they need to score, and score, and score……
