Hitchcock’s latest offensive experiment is paying off! What? No, no — not the Wilson at wing experiment. The “Get The Puck To Commodore” experiment!!! 7 shots on goal, including a beauty from 50 feet to tie the game in the 3rd (aided by a nifty Umberger screen), just when fans thought another great effort was [...]

A native of the SF Bay Area, my first exposure to hockey was the SF/Oakland/California Golden Seals, including Charlie Finley and the white skates. Fast forward to the late 1980's when Gretzky and the Kings came up to the Bay Area for an exhibition game at the Oakland Coliseum Arena, for which we had glass seats. I was at the first San Jose Sharks game in the Cow Palace, and followed them for their first few pathetic years, before moving to Columbus in 1994. I attended the first pro-NHL rally downtown, and have been a season ticket holder since Day 1, wife & I are active in the Jacket Backers, and son is an avid fan as well. I cover the Jackets for Inside Hockey, and contribute regularly to a variety of hockey sites. I maintain contact with the Jackets organization, and like to dig into stories, bringing a fresh, and sometimes irreverent perspective to hockey.
Nashville Preview and Statistical Madness
Predatory Visit — Nashville comes to town, which customarily has the local scribes and other pundits wailing and beating their breasts about the imminent loss. Never more so than now, on the heels of a shutout West Coast trip. Sure history supports their angst, but consider that half of the CBJ roster has no experience, [...]

The 5 – 3 loss to Anaheim tonight is a tough one to characterize. Lots of effort, particularly out of the gate when Anaheim had lots of jump after 3 days rest and showed lots of spark. We did a good job of keeping up the frenetic pace and played them to a standoff. Our downfall [...]
December 8th, 2008 | Jeff Little | 0 comments | ContinuedNeed To Bag Our Limit Of Ducks Tonight
With the end of the current road trip coming tonight in Anaheim, we need a strong effort to make this only an unsatisfactory trip, as opposed to an awful one. An unrewarded strog effort in San Jose was followed by a realy snoozer in LA. The only solace from that one is that, disregarding empty [...]

Well, the CBJ gave us a turkey a week late. I suppose they were due for a bad game, but this one had no redeeming social value. My takeaways from the game:What Jump?? First 10 minutes of the game were played in slow motion. We just came off a big effort against the best team [...]
December 7th, 2008 | Jeff Little | 0 comments | ContinuedL.A. Preview
Assuming that the Jackets can get to the Arena through L.A. traffic, here are some things to watch for:Attitude — CBJ attitude needs to be the same as in SJ — come out hard, put lots of pucks on net, and don’t give LA a chance to breathe. LaBarbera will likely start, as he came [...]

Last night’s game vs. the Sharks was a tantalizing event that just fell short. Here are my takeaways from the game; The bad . . .Too many penalties — going in we knew we had to stay out of the box, and giving SJ six stabs at it, including 4.5 of them in the second period [...]
December 5th, 2008 | Jeff Little | 0 comments | ContinuedTorres Update
Per our friends at the Dispatch, Raffi Torres will have arthroscopic surgery in Minnesota to clear out what doctors believe is scar tissue in his bum knee. They think this is causing his pain, and inferentially the feeling of instability he has experienced. Down time depends upon what they find, but estimate now is 2 [...]
December 4th, 2008 | Jeff Little | 0 comments | ContinuedSan Jose Preview
The Jackets foray into the depths of Silicon Valley to tangle with the Sharks, who have been other-worldly so far this season, particularly at home. 21-3 -1 overall, 13-0-1 at home. The lone blemish being an OTL to Nashville. So, why should we not just abandon all hope and fly directly to L.A.? Several reasons: [...]

Legein’s Return — Sources appear unanimous that Stefan Legein will return to the CBJ fold, likely reporting to Syracuse in January. TSN.ca reports:Legein has been skating for the last few weeks with the St. Catharines Falcons of the Golden Horseshoe Junior League and on Monday will begin working out with the Brampton Battalion of the [...]

This win was not elegant, but was poetic in its own bizarre way. By winning a game where they did not score the first goal (first time this season for that), were not clicking on all cylinders, and had to once again come from behind twice, they solidified the lessons learned over the past week. [...]
December 2nd, 2008 | Jeff Little | 0 comments | ContinuedMonday Miscellany — Beat Vancouver!!
Stick With What Works Per the Dispatch, do not expect any significant changes in the lineup tonight against Vancouver. After a solid showing over the Caps, why change? Rookie Goalie Matchup?Tonight might be an interesting faceoff between two rookie goalies — Steve Mason and Cory Schneider, who made his debut against Calgary the other night [...]
