Duck season comes to an end tonight in Nationwide Arena, as the CBJ host Anaheim in the 4th and final meeting this season. This also culminates a stretch of 9 games in 15 days, including 6 in the last 9 days. After a loss to Pittsburgh, the Jackets have gone 6 – 0 – 1 [...]

A native of the SF Bay Area, my first exposure to hockey was the SF/Oakland/California Golden Seals, including Charlie Finley and the white skates. Fast forward to the late 1980's when Gretzky and the Kings came up to the Bay Area for an exhibition game at the Oakland Coliseum Arena, for which we had glass seats. I was at the first San Jose Sharks game in the Cow Palace, and followed them for their first few pathetic years, before moving to Columbus in 1994. I attended the first pro-NHL rally downtown, and have been a season ticket holder since Day 1, wife & I are active in the Jacket Backers, and son is an avid fan as well. I cover the Jackets for Inside Hockey, and contribute regularly to a variety of hockey sites. I maintain contact with the Jackets organization, and like to dig into stories, bringing a fresh, and sometimes irreverent perspective to hockey.
Friday Factoids
A rare off day for the Jackets lately, with no skating today. A well deserved rest. I think I need a day of rest as well — it will be some late nights next week with the Western Canada swing. I’ll take a stab at a live blog during one of those games. Tonight, sitting [...]

That was one tired bunch of guys on the ice last night in Toronto. The first period was painful, until 19 minutes 59.3 seconds in, when Nash and Huselius teamed up on a magnificent “time and score” goal. Second period was a little better, and it was truly a fantastic effort in the 3rd, OT [...]

As the 3rd period was beginning tonight, my thoughts were along the following lines: “Gee, this is great. A 4 – 1 lead after playing two great periods of hockey, and no need to have the cardiologist on call, for a change. We always dominate the third period.”My profound apologies to the CBJ faithful for [...]

Been a busy, busy day today, so my Blues preview will be necessarily abbreviated.Stay Out Of The Box — Simple enough, right? St. Louis gets a huge percentage of their points from the power play, so we can’t allow them to take advantage of that. Play smart!Simplicity — As Hitch would say — North to [...]

If this were the old Bluejackets, I would probably be stomping around, cursing Doug MacLean and everyone he ever associated with. Sure, they missed opportunities tonight, and yes, they had two defensive lapses that resulted in goals. But when you outshoot the other team 43 – 22, lay 48 hits on them, and their goalie [...]

Game 4 in what has been an edgy, controversial, uncharacteristic series with the Stars from Dallas this season. Starting with premiere goaltenders Turco and Leclaire for the first 2 games, the teams netted 20 goals, 10 apiece, as they split 3 point games in Dallas. Last time at Nationwide found a mono-plagued Mason giving up [...]

OK, everybody SING: Nothing could be finerThan 2 points in CarolinaIn a playyy–off race . . . (repeat as often as necessary) This one had all of the earmarks of a very scary game for the CBJ — road game, back end of back to backs, on the heels of an emotional, heavy hitting game [...]

With apologies to James Taylor, I will not be physically present in Carolina tonight (though a few of my intrepid friends in the Jacket Backers will be), but I will be glued to the tube for the latest installment of Jackets vs. the Eastern Conference. Both clubs come into this match with records of 27-23-5, 59 [...]

OK, so my penalty for not doing this last night, instead of today, is that everybody else got to the whole Jason/Friday the 13th bit before I did. My bad . . . However, to hear the Red Wings talk after last night’s 3 – 2 loss to the CBJ, the Jasons (Chimera and Williams) [...]
