12/20-12/26 CBJ Prospect Week in Review

As I said last week it was pretty much an off week for the Blue Jackets Prospects with only Ryan Johansen and Petr Straka playing in pre-tournament and World Junior Championship games, and the team’s minor league affiliates playing 1 or 2 games. After the AHL holiday break the Falcons took on hated rival the Providence Bruins defeating them 5-2. Trevor Frischmon lead the team in scoring with 2 assists the only other player with multiple points was…. Nikita Filatov(thats not a typo) Filatov scored his first goal of the season at any level and added his 3rd assist in the AHL. The Komets is in the midst of a three game series with the Dayton Gems winning on Wednesday with Chris Francis scoring his 3rd of the season but picking up no points in last night’s shootout loss. On to the 2 prospects the Blue Jackets have playing in the 2011 World Junior Championships taking place in Buffalo, NY. First round pick Ryan Johansen played in 3 pre-tournament games for Canada picking up 3 goals and a assist to lead Canada in goal scoring in the pre-tournament. Johansen tied for second in scoring behind possible number 1 pick Sean Couturier who had 2 goals and 4 assists in the 3 games. Then on Sunday Johansen scored the game winner in Canada’s 6-3 win over the Russia. Petr Straka and the Czechs took part in 2 pre-tournament defeating tournament favorite Team USA 3-2 in a shootout on Tuesday with Straka scoring the team’s first goal. Then and this was the hardest ame to find anything on, the Czecs took on Germany in a game that had to be postponed because of Germany having trouble getting its gear to the States because of the weather. Thanks to google translate it looks like the Czechs won 4-3 and it didnt look like Straka scored. Straka and the Czechs start the World Juniors today against Norway that lost to Sweden 7-1 yesterday. The team’s prospect start again with most of the college prospect takinng part in Holiday tournaments and the CHL prospects start up again tonight. As always follow @CBJprospects for updates on all the team’s prospects.
